Dr. Rick S. Pope was born in Oakland and raised in nearby Silicon Valley. His roots in northern California resulted in his choice of U.C. Davis for his undergraduate studies, followed by four years of graduate studies at U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry. Along with receiving his Bachelor of Science degrees, Dr. Pope concluded his formal training in 1981 receiving his Doctorate of Optometry degree from U.C. Berkeley.
After graduation, he worked at U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry where he specialized in contact lens research as well as teaching as a clinical professor in the Pediatric Clinic. Shortly thereafter, he worked for Maxicare Health Plan as a primary care optometrist. As a member of a cohesive health care team, Dr. Pope assisted internist and general practitioners in managing eyecare for patients with an assortment of health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol.
In 1984, he joined an established B street private practice dating back to 1946. From that moment in time, Dr. Pope has focused his energies on providing his patients with the latest advances in eye care, using the most advanced, computerized, state of the art equipment. His approach of personalized service with emphasis on patient education to explain diagnosis and treatment options is what helps create the quality and trust in the eye care delivered by Dr. Pope over the past 30 years.
In his spare time, Dr. Pope enjoys the outdoors. He is an avid cyclist, kayak-er, scuba diver and snow skier. Around the Bay Area, he enjoys theater, small out of the way restaurants, Warriors basketball and cooking at home. He is very enthusiastic as an optometrist and looks forward to meeting all new patients that wish to join our eye care team.
